ARUNA LUDRA
seeds can be sown directly
in the soil or grown in 6-inch deep pots.
Soak them overnight in water and nick
the outer cover with a nail cutter to
facilitate faster sprouting. When four
leaves appear, transfer them to 12-inch
pots with 10 to 12 seedlings each. The
soil should be enriched with a lot of
organic manure. Once the plants are
6-inches high they would need the
support of sticks and when the tendrils
appear, they can be supported with
bird netting strung between two stakes.
Keep only one main stem and remove
side shoots. By February, the flowers
start blooming. To maintain: keep
deadheading, don’t let the soil dry and
beware of squirrels who feast on its roots.
